Chelan County, in North Central Washington State, is blessed with abundant hydro power generated by power plants in dams on the Columbia River. The Chelan County Public Utility District (PUD) is owned and operated by the owner/customers, residents of Chelan County. While we enjoy some of the cheapest electric rates in the country, local residents recognize that our resources are valuable. We recognize that conditions over time may affect our ability to generate enough power and are interested in diversifying our approaches to generating power. We want to add new generating resources, and jobs, to North Central Washington that are also sustainable, renewable, and environmentally friendly.

Local residents are organizing to investigate other renewable types of energy production, like solar, wind, and geo-thermal power to see what is cost effective, what is sustainable, and what is just simply the right thing to do. A core group has formed and we invite you to join us. We meet the third Wednesday of each month at Apple Annie's in Cashmere, WA at 6:30 pm. If you can't come to meetings in person, no problem, get on the email list! Go to CHELAN SOLAR and click on the blue button "JOIN THIS GROUP". That requires that you "join" Yahoo and create a user name and password. They will ask you for all kinds of personal information, but you don't have to give it if you don't want to (fictitious information works great, all you really need to provide that's accurate is your email address). If you absolutely refuse to join Yahoo, or have trouble joining that group, send an email to Jeanne Poirer and she will make sure you are included in emailings.
