Development and Communications Coordinator

 

Sustainable NCW, a small nonprofit entering our sixth year, seeks a dynamic Development and Communications Coordinator. We are looking for a leader who is passionate about environmental and social sustainability in North Central Washington and is excited to be involved at a time of significant growth at SNCW. This position has the opportunity for additional hours and increased wages depending on the successful growth of SNCW’s operational budget. 

 

This position will work with the Executive Director and Board to identify, plan, and execute both immediate and long-range diverse fundraising opportunities. This part-time hourly position is funded through donations and sponsorships. Initial compensation will begin at $20/hr with 15 hours of work per week guaranteed. Hours and wages are expected to increase based on performance and acquisition of additional funding by Sustainable NCW, and as the role and responsibilities of this new position mature. Hours are flexible, but availability is required in the mornings on some weekdays. Schedule will be determined at hiring depending on what is best for the team and you personally. This position will require the ability to work some occasional weekends and evenings as needed, including attending board meetings on the third Monday of the month from 7-8:30pm.

 

Applicants must reside within Chelan or Douglas county. Office is located near downtown Wenatchee. Some teleworking is welcome.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute SNCW’s development plan to ensure sustainable funding through grants, donations, business, and event sponsorships, and our membership program.

  • Aid in community outreach and communications including event planning, digital communications (writing website content, monthly e-newsletters, and creating engaging social media posts) and designing printed marketing materials. 

  • Represent SNCW at community events and in meetings with other local nonprofits and agencies. 

  • Perform other administrative and outreach duties such as needed. 

 

Characteristics and Skills of a Successful Candidate:

The successful candidate is an energetic professional who has experience working in nonprofit organizations. In addition, we are looking for the following skills and abilities:

 

  • Passion for and basic knowledge of local environmental issues including climate change, recycling, composting, alternative transportation, etc.

  • Demonstrated ability to stay organized with a high attention to detail. 

  • Has an appreciation for our varied audiences, with the ability to appeal to a wide range of ages, backgrounds, and cultures in our outreach efforts.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage successful social media accounts and willingness to stay up-to-date on trends in order to increase followers.

  • Outgoing personality for engaging the public at community events and pursuing funders.

  • Strong collaboration with staff and the board while also self-motivated to regularly work independently.

  • Strong computer skills. This position requires regular use of Google Drive, Wix for website management, Canva for graphic design, and DonorBox for memberships. Some on-the-job training for these tools is available. 

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a bonus.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • A bachelor's degree in a related field is desired, including environmental science or environmental studies, biology, natural resource management, communication, marketing, business, or nonprofit management.

  • One year of experience in one of the following roles: development/fundraising, marketing/communications, or other nonprofit experience
